ABOUT OUR FOUNDER

I’m Sam, I’m 26 years old and I’m the founder of Sober Mates. I was what you would call a heavy social Aussie drinker. Someone that would never say no to a bev and never know my limits.

Alcohol had me anxiously watching my friends finish their glass on a Friday so I could order another. Using any excuse to drink on a Saturday where my thoughts would end up numb and my personality would change in front of people I cared about most. It had me late night calling my ex... Worst of all the hanganxiety had me paralysed on a Sunday and had me crying in a work bathroom on a Monday

I got to the point when one glass of wine would affect my mental health and I couldn't ignore the link anymore. It wasn’t something I had planned on doing but it was always in the back of my mind - I didn't want to drink but I also didn't want to not drink either. I didn’t think being sober was an option. So I told myself it would only be for 3 months, yet here I am today with zero urge to go back to drinking

I’m not a sobriety expert (yet) and I’m not going to pretend to be. But I do have a unique lived experience that I'm trying to share for good. Sober Mates let’s you explore your relationship with alcohol and is here to shake up Australia’s drinking expectations

I’m so happy you’ve decided to join me here on Sober Mates, be curious and don’t be afraid to get uncomfortable with exploring your drinking habits
